Laser Dentistry

Laser dentistry refers to any dental procedure that involves the use of a dental laser device that transmits a highly concentrated beam of light. Recent advances in laser technology have allowed many dentists to offer laser treatment in their own offices. The other benefit of dental lasers is that it is effective and minimally invasive, resulting in more comfort and better results.
The dental laser can be used to treat many different conditions, including:

  • Gum disease inflammation
  • Tooth decay
  • Soft & hard tissue treatment: canker sores and herpes lesions (The laser can actually decrease the pain experienced by these sores.)
  • Esthetic gum re-contouring to enhance your smile
  • Oral cancer detection

Dental lasers have been proven to be safe for both children and adults. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved several types of dental lasers for use on both adults and children. Many of the lasers for dentistry are similar or identical in design to other medical lasers that have been used successfully for years in the specialties of ophthalmology, neurosurgery, Ear/Nose/Throat (ENT), and dermatology!

Advantages of Laser Dentistry include:

  • Minimal or no anesthesia
  • Minimal bleeding
  • More controlled swelling
  • Reduced postoperative infection/discomfort
  • Less chance of infection
  • Reduced time in dentist’s office
  • Less pain
  • No noise (like a traditional dentist’s drill)
  • Preservation of tooth structure
  • A more sterilized environment (dental laser kills bacteria)

Our soft tissue dental laser can be used to treat many different conditions, including:

  • Gum disease inflammation
  • Soft tissue treatment: canker sores and herpes lesions (The laser can actually decrease the pain experienced by these sores.)
  • Esthetic gum re-contouring to enhance your smile

Lasers for Periodontal Gum Disease Treatment

The use of lasers for periodontal gum disease can help reduce gum inflammation, decontaminate the periodontal pocket and root surface. Procedures involving the use of lasers also do not require stitches. You will experience greater comfort, less risk, and reduced treatment time and cost.
